《皇极经世书》是一部运用易理和易教推究宇宙起源、自然演化和社会历史变迁的著作，以河洛、象数之学显于世。《皇极经世书》共十二卷六十四篇。首六卷《元会运世》凡三十四篇，次四卷《声音律品》凡十六篇，次《观物内篇》凡十二篇，末《观物外篇》凡二篇。前六十二篇是邵氏自著，末二篇是门人弟子记述。钱穆先生指出: 庄周、邵雍为观物派哲学。其中《观物篇》实乃邵雍之哲学、易理、历史学的理论大纲。
