苏轼幼时便随眉山道士张易简读书学《易》，少年时欲入山林当道士，终生与道士高人交往频繁，深晓《周易》占卜和“胎息”养生之术，并自称“铁冠道人”。苏轼于45岁左右被贬官于黄州时开始撰写《易传》，此后不断修改，直到生命垂危之时才修改完毕。他的认知方法、执政思想深受《易经》影响，诗词文赋也因此而愈加高深玄妙，后人不解《易》理，常常只识皮毛。
